PHOTOGRAPHY: Reflecting on "People You Know and Things You Shouldn't"
Friday the 19th is upon me. It’s the night before a-sorta-big-deal-for -me public showing of my work as “Miriphoto” in the show “People You Know & Things You Shouldn’t.” Excitedly, I’ve found myself nearing completion of all the necessary finishing touches. So what am I doing? Procrastinating with this blog.
It’s been an interesting and challenging couple of months coordinating photo shoots with so many different people from our arts community. These are people who are used to having other people observe their work, not a picture of themselves on the wall. Some of my subjects were more than willing to “expose” their souls while others were very, very shy. Some of the artists I photographed were a challenge to shoot because of their natural instincts to compose and create. Other artists were relived to not have to think about composition and put all their trust in my instincts.
This show is comprised of a very small sampling of local artists, musicians, writers, and more. They are people who expose themselves to public review on a regular basis to either be praised or misunderstood. They are people who pursue their passions despite the pain it sometimes brings and all the while make Orlando that much cooler.
If YOU like to look, listen, eat, drink and meet your neighbors, please stop by Will’s Pub Friday evening between 6 p.m. & 9 p.m. Emily Lapham will be DJing some sweet jams for our musical delight. Following the reception, Gargamel! and The Little Debbies will rock our socks and undies off. Just kidding. Maybe.
See you there!
