Firkin & Frigate Pub: User Reviews
Firkin & Frigate Pub
711 Thimble Shoals Blvd. - Newport NewsTwo Thursdays ago, "The Golden Girls", who go out after work almost every Thursday, decided to visit the Newport News Frikin and Frigate Pub. The suggested beer was good, and from there, it was downhill. What started out to be an annoying visit by one fruit fly, turned out to be an invasion after our dry corned beef sandwiches arrived. We gazed at the painting on the wall, and there were more fat fruit flies on the painting waiting for more. When I asked where the manager was and told the waitress why we needed him (although it was quite obvious by our clapping, slapping, and shooing gestures), she replied, "Oh, I think he's somewhere over there. They're (the flies) are REEALLLYYY bad over there. We tried to spray for them, but it did'nt seem to do any good." as she pointed to the bar area. The final straw was when one took a nose dive into the sour cream on my nachos. The manager never came, I was sick on my stomach for 2 days after my visit, and needless to say, The Golden Girls did not add this joint to our list of Thursday afternoon meeting places. IT WAS DISGUSTING!!!
Report This ReviewI like this pub- it reminds me of an Irish pub but more upscale--the best of both worlds. If I lived round city center, this would be my "Cheers". :)
Report This ReviewFred from williamsburg 05/14/09. Went to the pub and was sort of impressed of the atmosphere. The place was packed, live music and the theme is of a old pub in England but with a splash of lounge which I like. Good to take a first date but not to party like an animal a good medium. I will give this place a 1 thumbs up.
Report This ReviewFirkin and Frigate has been a good standard place to go for a while but my last experience will make me think twice before going again. After waiting at the front door for what felt like 30 min, we were finally seated and told our waitress would be right with us. Ten minutes later, the hostess came back and said she would be serving us. We gave our drink orders and sat back to wait. After another 20 minutes, our drinks from the bar finally arrived. One sip of my pomegranate martini proved there was nothing more than juice in my glass. When I asked the waitress about it, her reply was "what the he**" do you want me to do about it?" Not exactly the answer I was looking for with a $7 glass of JUICE. Finally our food was ordered and we settled in for a LONG wait. Eventually our food arrived and while my friends said there food was decent, my fish with my fish and chips was dry and overcooked. I really hope this was a one off experience at Firkin and Frigate. The atmosphere is great and the food is normally pretty good. Fingers crossed.
