Escape all the mayhem of Downtown Norfolk establishments and venture towards the Oceanfront to ENCORE Lounge (yes, it’s supposed to be in all caps). Located in the Oceana area of Virginia Beach, this small yet upscale establishment provides good music and even better vibes.

Decor: Don't be fooled by its basic and mildly decorative exterior, ENCORE Lounge's polished hardwood floors, neon lighting, large plasma screens, and marble covered bar, all make it a fairly decent spot to visit on any night.  Although it is small and poorly positioned, the V.I.P. area is still existent.  On a livelier night, visitors might be fortunate to find a visiting celebrity or two under black light, partying, and raising their glass to the DJ.  

Dress Code:  The dress code is fairly relaxed compared to most other clubs, which should appeal to those less comfortable with “cleaning up” their attire. Guys don’t leave the house too quick, t-shirts and jeans are acceptable as long as they're not excessively baggy, but a collared shirt is preferable. Keep the athletic gear in your closet though, because this is not Bally's and you will not get in wearing it. Ladies on the other hand, are never turned away when they are dressed to impress. A nice pair of heels can accent any outfit, including a t-shirt, but a dress is definitely their perfect companion.

Atmosphere:  Anything not needed inside the club is better left at home or in the car, because security is strict. Everyone usually drinks top shelf liquor here. No need to worry though, because the bar is fully stocked for any drink you might be able to think of. Although somewhat overpriced for its size, the high energy vibe of the crowd makes it worthwhile.  Find a good spot to groove to a wide selection of the latest hip-hop, south, and dancehall favorites.  

Service:  Constantly packed but understaffed, ENCORE's bar is its best feature. You might not be able to figure out whom to ask for a drink though, because uniforms are obsolete here. Its worst feature is undoubtedly the parking, or lack there of.  The lot that surrounds the building is typically reserved for valet parking on most nights. Finding a space across the street (or at any of the establishments in reasonable walking distance) is practically impossible to do without the fear of finding your vehicle towed when you return.

Bottom Line: In a nutshell, ENCORE Lounge is a low-key venue that you hardly hear about. Even though it’s not your typical upscale club, it’s definitely a place to visit when venturing toward the Oceanfront. This venue is somewhat like a bridge between Entourage in Norfolk and The Alley in Newport News. If you're in the spending mood, then a visit here might be worth your while.
