Located along General Booth Blvd, Guadalajara’s Tropical Cafe fills a typically busy shopping center with vibrancy and flair. Guadalajara’s loud music and even louder signage make it difficult to miss and ever harder to resist.
Décor: Marble plated floors, rock tiled ceilings, and an enormous bench-encased fountain all surround the decent sized lounge. Large open windows line the perimeter of this venue, giving everyone approaching (or waiting in the line outside) a taste of Mexico. Also near the line are the huge spotlights, which make you feel as if you are attending a superstar event. If the weather is good, you can continue the party outdoors on a patio complete with torch lanterns and a few small tables for dining.
Drinks: Reasonably priced. Since any form of cover charge is practically non-existent, visitors can spend their paychecks where they truly want to…the bar. Step your tolerance up a notch and indulge in Guadalajara’s own signature margaritas. The size of the glasses is only half of how they got their name, “Megarita.”
Crowd: Most nights you will easily find yourself in a room full of outgoing and friendly locals laughing, drinking, and dancing the night away. From young professionals and business owners, to college students and tourists, the doors seem to be open to everyone.
Dress Code: Dress code, what dress code? The casual look is appreciated but not required. As with any establishment, just be conscientious and respectable. Guys, hoodies are fine and so are fitted hats, but if you’re going to wear a t-shirt, try to find one with a logo.
Service: While most places seem to take forever on making your drinks, the turn around here might shock you. Fast service, a polite bar staff, and respectful security make the drive more than worth it.
Bottom Line: As if the food isn’t appeasing enough, the drinks seldom disappoint anyone. While restaurant by day, by night this authentic Mexican eatery transforms into one of the most popular bars and hangout spots in Virginia Beach. Guadalajara’s Tropical Café’s taste of Mexican beverages, music, decor, and cuisine all aid in creating a truly authentic experience.
