High ceilings and pattern covered walls dress the perimeter of the establishment, while marble countertops and dim European lighting fills its interior. Glance at the huge plasma screens above the bar while grabbing a drink, or observe the tropical fish in the wall-encased aquarium to its right.
Step upstairs for a more private experience. Low seating and narrow walking space lead to a second bar, typically used for VIP functions. Poke fun and make the first floor dwellers jealous like no other, by looking down over the railing over them.
If you or your friends arrive with an empty stomach, feel free to indulge any of their delicious and affordable appetizers. Snack at the bar or in the rear of the lounge, where more ample seating and privacy is available. Velvet is one of the only spots along the entire stretch of Granby St. to have a secluded outdoor patio. Guests can take an even more romantic approach and steal some privacy here or at least a quick cigarette.
On most evenings you might find anything from live music to a house DJ. Step inside from the street and dance the night away, or lay back and vibe out to more eclectic sounds. Although you might see many people around you with Heineken bottles, be sure to ask the friendly bar staff for the drink special of the night. Reasonably priced compared to so many other spots, it might just be the thing to close that “deal”, or set the remainder of your night off right.
