Joan of Art, the all-female art show held at Fuzion Ink Tattoo Shop, was the kind of art show you wouldn’t expect in 2007.
The art show featuring 14 female artists, full catering, an open bar, and a female DJ was nothing short of extravagant. Being held in Norfolk's first legal tattoo shop (in what seems like centuries), Joan of Art set the standard for years to come, on how art shows should be done.
The initial shock of this show was the mind-bending amount of people that were in attendance. For a tattoo shop of 2,000 square feet (give or take), cramming 500+ people into the building (as well as clogging the sidewalk and disrupting traffic) was definitely a sight that had to be seen first-hand.
This was probably the most diverse crowd Hampton Roads has seen in the years. There was a visual blur of indie hipsters, spooky kids, hip-hop “cats” in chains, tattooed-n-pierced guys who looked like stunt doubles, and everyone in-between.
One impressive part of this show was the open bar that Fuzion Ink provided. There was over 5 bartenders in such a small space, therefore Fuzion had every drink that anyone could ask for.
Looking around, art show-goers were treated to a very calm, warm-toned tattoo shop. The building was lit with minimalist pin lights hanging from the ceiling. Adding to it was 2 large flat screen TV’s balancing it out from both back corners of the shop.
Let's not forget the actual artists, either! Here's a list of the ladies that showed their fine works that night:
Elizabeth Henry
Mallorie Nasrallah
Dzaet
Candace Filip
Tricia
Sierra Goggiaharrison
Machinedance Photography
Chelsey Barnes
Jen Stringer
Briana Cece
Jennida Chase
Renee Alexander
Amanda Page Stephens
Melanie
This was definitely not a run-of-the-mill art show.
Eyes were treated to paintings of all shapes, sizes, colors and textures, sculptures, bizarre fetish photography, and other forms of creative honor lined the makeshift walls that the crew at Fuzion Ink constructed weeks prior to the night of the show.
Joan of Art was arguably the event of the year. As the photos show, this was a massive showing with some serious, heavyweight talents. The variation of attendees, the awe-inspiring works witnessed, and the swift professionalism with which this showing was executed and maintained was nothing short of stunning.
