The Spot is no longer the business occupying that space at Palace Lane. A new sports bar is going in it's place - new owners, employees and management. The whole place has been remodeled and revamped. Come by and check out the new place!!

I have now been to "The Pub" twice with every intention of going back. Both times I went it was very busy, but the service was excellent and the staff was very courtious and knowledgeable about the menu and the many beers they offer. My wife and I continue to try different items from the menu each visit and so far they have all been excellent! The prices are by no means cheap, it is not a fast food resteraunt or a hole in the wall bar, but they were very reasonable considering the type of nicer more upscale restaurant that it is. Don't get me wrong! It is not formal, but very nice. I highly recommend everyone to at least give it a try!

Doumars is always dirty. Dirty buckets at entrance. Worn down inside. Trash everywhere. Dirty dishes left out. The floors are not swept. I am surprised the health dept doesnt shut this place down. When I eat somewhere I expect the place to be clean, especially if it is a place that serves food.

food was super horrible! It tasted like it came from costco...extremely salty and greasy. Decor is very tacky and cheap. I ordered the gyro platter (since I had an extremely good one from a newport news greek festival). The Castles's gyro sandwich was overstuffed w/ salty gyro and white yogurt(?)sauce that smelled funky. The hummus was the worst!! Tasteless cold cream. One of the servers was wearing a medical scrub suit with her (hospital?)I.D badge on! did she came from work or on her way to work? Who knows..but thats disgusting to find out. Will never go back again

Thanks for the recommendation. My husband and I ate there for lunch, and it was fabulous! Try the carnitas gordita with the red chile sauce. You won't be disappointed.

What a poor representation of an "authentic" British Pub!!! They do well by buying their furniture in England to show the "real thing" and the food is decent but how can you have a British Pub without English Football?!!!! Brits and Football go together like Yanks and baseball, it’s like someone in the UK opening up an “American Bar” and not providing live NFL or MLB matches! You tout yourself as and “English Pub” but you don’t open early for Premiership matches then it’s a waste of time and you should not claim to be authentic. Shame on you! You people are frauds and an embarrassment! If you’re going to open a real “British Pub” in America, do it right!!!

ADRIANEVERETT wrote about Jenro's Classic Pub

From 1989 to 1999 Jenro's Classic Pub sat at the far South end of Haygood Shopping Center on Honeygrove Road. It was actually once before known as Blue Hawaii but was bought out and paid for by Jenro E. Lambaiso Senior (deceased) and was given to his son Michael Jenro Lambaiso as a wedding gift when Michael married his first wife Jodie. Jenro's Classic Pub was for the longest time a hot spot for Saturday Night Cruising both before and after the installation of the "No Cruise" Ordianance set forth by Mayor Oberndorff and VB City Council. Jenro's promoted anything and everything to keep it's doors open. But it's main bread and butter came on Saturday Night in the form of Saturday Night Fever Classic Car Show hosted by a revolving door of local DJ's including Joe Pelligrino, Dale Ore, and DJ Adrian E (Yours truly who is writing this review). From 1997 to 1999 Jenro's became a supporter of local rock music and for those 2 magic years every local band you can think of rocked the house. Three of the best local bands wound up with months long residencies on the Jenro's stage, Sea of Souls, The Blue Lords, and Frame of Mind. Every 4th Friday was dedicated to Tribute Bands including, Eruption: The Van Halen Tribute Band and The Virginia Beach Version of Cold Gin: The Kiss Tribute Band not to be confused with California's Version which had current Kiss member Tommy Thayer in it's line up. Every Tuesday Night was $1.00 pitcher night from 7 PM - 9 PM and then on Wednesday nights and Friday night from 6PM - 9 PM $.55 mix well drinks. On Thanksgiving Weekend 1996 Jenro's introduced a powerfully wild concept of a promotion. Everything's a dollar from 7 till 9. This helped Jenro's stay alive during the long winter season. Dollar Tree which was a few doors down served as the inspiration for the winter time idea. On May 1, 1998 Jenro's lost one of it's best bartenders, Maria Ann Carpenter who was everyone's favorite bartender and friend outside the club. Her death really brought down the house and Jenro's limped on into 1999. The bands had gotten out of control with their fans and Jenro's had changed it's name to Jenro's Club 2000 and reverted back to DJ's but that was not enough to hold things together so in November Michael Lambaiso sold out and Jenro's Club 2000 folded and became Metropolis. Metropolis did not last long and became Salty Digs then that club folded and became what is now known as Hartz Cafe. Hartz has a small but loyal following similar but not as strong as Jenro's Classic Pub which will always be the shadow those other clubs will always be living in the shadow of forever and day.

The Bill's Seafood in Grafton is also a great place to eat and is open for lunch Wednesday - Sunday, and dinner Tuesday - Sunday (closed Mondays). They serve beer and wine along with those hot mounds of hush puppies.

I found the food and beer selecion to be wonderful. What bothered me was that for the price the service was not good. Our waitress was unattentive we had to get up twice to get someone for service while the staff seemed to be interested more in there personal conversations. I also noticed that an african american couple left with out ever being waited on, and another couple actually had to get up to ask for a waitress, I hope this is not a trend because I will not be dining there again.

I typically go to the Joe & Mimma's in Newport News and was in the Grafton area, so decided to give it a try. What a disappointment! No one greeted us when we walked in. The waitresses were sitting down chatting and it seemed like we interrupted them to be seated! No smiles or friendliness. Our food was mediocre--and that's being nice. The portions of the pasta were smaller than the Newport News J & M and the prices were so much higher!!! The alfredo tasted like it was out of a jar and the lettuce for our salads was so wilty, I couldn't eat it. The server never checked back until the check was dropped off. I have to say it was a complete dissappointment coming to this location. I won't come back to this one again. Newport News J & M rocks!!!

My husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant when we were driving around last weekend looking for someplace new to eat. We spotted the quaint Italian exterior with the red and white striped canopy and gorgeous flowers at the entrance and decided to give it a shot. We are soooo glad we did! We were greeted at the front door by three people which was a great first impression to begin. Our server gave us warm bread and delicious basil pesto to dip it into and I got the special which was pasta carbonara---my fave!!! It was absolutely mouth-watering and I ate every bit. My husband got the tortellini ala panna which had a delicious creamy alfredo and diced ham. He was very pleased with the portion and the presentation, not to mention the tastiness! We are so glad we came to Joe & Mimma's and we will definitely be back--soon!!!

Joe & Mimma's was the best Italian food I've ever had! I ordered a sub and the Italian dressing was out of this world, while my wife ordered the lasagna. Her dish was so rich that she couldn't finish it all and had to take the rest home. Their dessert selection was impressive and we just couldn't turn down the Strawberry Cheesecake. Also, service was the best I've had, everyone was friendly and willing to accomodate us, as it should be!

I absolutely love this restaurant. The homemade Marinara sauce is delicious and the House dressing is second to none. The portions are good and the service is always quick and friendly. I always take friends and family here when they come to visit.

I brought wife and kids here and we all fell in love with the food! My finicky kids even ate all of their pasta. The sauce has a little sweetness and the meatballs were amazing. My wife got the veal marsala and I got the lasagna; we were both so impressed by the delicious meals that we came back the next night. You won't be disappointed here. The food and service guarantee your return!

My husband and I visited "The Pub" a week ago and were pleasantly surprised. We were escorted to the bar upon request. Our food was delivered promptly and was delicious! I began with the Jamaican shrimp. Yum! We then ordered fish and chips. The home-made tartar sauce was to die for! The service was great. I was surprised because it was quite busy. We loved the atmosphere. The drinks were good too. We had beer, martinis, and were offered samples of various beers and drinks simply because we were curious. My husband liked the special attention we received. We will return. Oh, and the comments regarding price...well, we thought the prices were low and reasonable (we are not from Hampton). It depends on what you are use to spending along with what you deem as expensive and pricey. Every place is not for every one. That is simply the way it is.

I'll keep it brief, Fish was served with huge bloodline....filleted by inexperienced "chef"....when brought to the attn of the server she said there was nothing she could do, asked to speak to the manager she returned embarrased saying there was nothing he could do....left both meals unfinished ....paid the bill and left....bad enough about the meal but the manager on duty was the owners disrespectful son who doesn't care enough about customers to come to a table when asked too.......I rarely have asked to speak to the manager when dining out but was shocked when he wouldn't come to the table....what a sorry excuse for a manager!!......hell, he probably cleaned the fish, he knows nothing about managing a seafood rest. why would he know how to clean a fish!.....LOL..they'll never see another penny from me!.....Don't waste your money, go to the Surfrider!....
