Coming from England I in no way expected "The Pub" to pull off a legitimate pub and quite honestly, they didn't. The decor is good and the bar fare legitimate and offers excellent choices. However, the kilts belong in Scotland and quite frankly look ridiculous on the waitstaff. I have been there four times now and the service has been excellent. The food is very good and the jerk shrimp are to die for. The bangers and mash could be a little more done for my taste. The desserts are fantastic. Although their prices are a little on the high side I still will continue to give them my business.

After getting many recommendations for this restaurant from relatives my husband and I decided to try it on a recent visit to our second home in the area. Perhaps I am jaded having eaten in the best restaurants in the Italian neighborhoods in NYC and Philadelphia but on a scale of 1 to 10 I have to give this a 6 and 1 point is for the great service from our waiter. The wine list is very good for a small place and has excellent values in really good chianti. My husband ordered a dish that contained clams, mussels, calimari, and shrimp over pasta in a marinara sauce. The calimari were tough and chewy, the mussels and shrimp overcooked. IAt first I ordered the house special a veal dish that came with pumpkin ravioli. They were out of the pumpkin ravioli so I ordered veal parmisean instead. The veal was well cooked. However, the marinara sauce in both my husband's meal and mine lacked acid balance and was not particularly good--way too acidic. The home made dressing that came with the salad contained too much vinegar. Other then a good wine list, the garlic rolls were also good. Good rolls are not enough to make us return. Overall, you can get a better Italian meal at Olive Garden.

LaineAndAlex wrote about Kyushu's Sushi

love it for several reasons, but the number one reason is that they have the freshest, best tasting fish in town. Their fish is consistent every time you visit, lunch or dinner. Honestly, you can take away all the interior decorations, service, fancy food arrangements, prices, whatever. With the abundance of mediocrity available today for sushi the key determining factor must be the taste and quality of the fish. Kyushu simply nails it. Kyushu is in a shopping strip on Newtown Road, not the most fashionable address in Virginia Beach. In fact, the New York bus depot has moved in next door, taking the location down a notch or two in my opinion. The interior is about as fashionable as the location. There are basic tables and chairs which are very close together. The sushi bar is not just for decoration. On busy nights and at lunchtime the seats will be packed. The same people are always working there, from the servers to the sushi chef. Once you go there enough they get to know you, but regardless they greet everyone who enters and say "Thank you!" (kind of loudly) to everyone when they leave. Once seated your server will great you with a warm towel for a pre-dining refresher and take your drink orders. They have the basics, but no extensive beer or wine list. You can choose from a couple of Japanese beers, plum wine and Sake, in addition to the usual suspects of sodas, US beers, etc. We ordered a la carte, mixing up sushi and sashimi with a California Roll, Volcano Roll and Mussels appetizer. If you are a mussel eater I strongly recommend that you try this broiled delight. I simply can't NOT get them. They are my favorite. These are mussels in an open faced shell, topped with a "secret" sauce and lightly broiled. You can watch these being cooked because the broiler is behind the sushi bar and up high, over the stove, right about at eye level. The plate comes to the table with the sauce still sizzling. I have also had their fried oysters and recommend these to fellow oyster eaters. They are cooked to perfection with a light tempura batter. All of the sushi and sashimi selections were delicious. The Volcano Roll was very tasty but also very rich. Most sushi is not what I would consider filling, so I warn you that this roll is heavy. Service is always brisk. It is the kind of place where you have a primary waitress but everyone working there will wait on you. Although the restaurant is somewhat kid friendly, I believe Kyushu is better suited to older kids who may have a bit more self control and manners. My six year old is not quite ready in my opinion. There is a pretty decent chance that her volume and inability to sit still could hamper the dining experience of someone else, especially since the tables are so close together. So leave your fancy pants and high heels at home, throw on your favorite jeans and head out to Kyushu for the best sushi in town. You will not be disappointed.

Cafe Europa is without parallel in Hampton Roads for fine dining. The ambience, the polite and unpretentious attention of the wait staff and the delectable menu choices prepared and exquisitely plated by Chef Mike make this an unforgettable dining experience. Your hostess, Veronique, will ensure your comfort and satisfaction. I can't eat here without enjoying four courses! Pay careful attention to the specials recited by your server. They will be your best choices for the evening!

I swung by to check this place out this evening. I figured I would grab a few tacos to go, and see how it went. I got two pork tacos and a beef taco. I kept it simple, because the way I see it. Ig you can make a great basic taco, everything else must be really damn good. My verdict? Those tacos were awesome! I'll be going back quite often, that's for sure.

Aquavitfoodie wrote about The Green Onion

All in all this is a wonderful place to come, to enjoy a nice glass of wine, a very adequate list of fine artisanal cheeses, a friendly and fairly well knowledged waitstaff and good though perhaps slightly overpriced dishes. I have eaten at the green onion on multiple occasions and always enjoyed the above mentioned ammenities however the one variance which stands out most to me and I assume other patrons is whomever the chef is on the night you may choose to visit. On at least two occasions the chef was a very loud, and seemingly rude young man who left his waitstaff disgruntled and his kitchen staff sour faced, turns out when I asked my server whom the executive chef was she pointed in his direction, frankly I was appauled. I mean it is an open kitchen and the closest table is less than 5 feet away yet I was sitting at a table against the windows and I could make out everything he was saying. The food was still delicious but it just kind of ruined the experience as a whole. However on two seperate occasions I had the pleasure of having different folks running the kitchen. About a month back a young lady was running the kitchen, the kitchen seemed very focused but very happy at the same time, I had the steak au pouvre, delicious! Then most recently, this past Sunday evening I decided to head in for a bite with my wife, a young man was running the line, once again the kitchen was very focused, and the food came out quick and delicious, I had his special a roasted red pepper and artichoke crabcake with a parmesan cream sauce, it was outstanding, my wife had a tomato bisque, though they were out of the delicious bread cheese that usually accompanies it he topped it with some challah croutons which she seemed to enjoy just as much. Towards the end of the meal he came out from the kitchen at checked with all the tables to make sure everything was up to par. He was friendly and very personable. Its the little things like that, that make a good place a great place. I will definitely continue my foodie love affair with the onion where I hope to see more of the the friendly and passionate staff.

GeoffLPrice wrote about Wood Chick's BBQ

I feel so cheated! I went to this restaurant because I saw where this place won a Bobby Flay Throwdown. Walking in, the place smelled great, but it was a little confusing as to whether we should be seated, sit ourselves or we order first. None of the staff was very helpful or even seemed like they cared (with the exception of the bartender.) I ordered the Super Sampler which came with ribs, pulled pork and brisket. My wife ordered the Junior Sampler which was the same only minus the ribs. Both of us were of the exact same opinion - horrible! The ribs did have a slight smoky flavor, but that was really the only flavor. The pulled pork was only good if you drowned it in their BBQ sauce (which was the only saving grace). The brisket was dry and not very flavorful. I can honestly say that the brisket at Busch Gardens at the Trappers Smokehouse in France beat the crap out of the brisket I had at Wood Chicks. There are quite a few BBQ joints around (Smokey Bones, County Smokehouse and Grill) to name just a few. I mention these because they are my favorite (and in that order). I would have not been able to eat the meat here if they didn't have good BBQ sauce. I won't be going back - ever. There are just too many other BBQ places that are so much better. Wow, either the Throwdown was a scam or Bobby made some really bad BBQ (which I seriously doubt!). How this place won is a complete mystery as well as how they are still in business. If I could give it less than one star, I would.

A MONTH AGO, WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD!!! ONE OF THE BARTENDER ACCUSED MY HUSBAND FOR TAKING "TIP"MONEY OUT HER TIP JAR !!! HE PAID OUR DRINKS BY CREDIT CARDS!!!! IT WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! SHE ACCUSED HIM SAYING THAT HE ACTUALLY DID, IN FRONT OF THE MANAGER AND THE MANAGER BELIEVE HER!!! MY HUSBAND IS A BIG MAN AND THE TIP JAR WAS TINY FOR HIS HAND TO EVER REACH INSIDE. I TOLD MY GIRLFRIEND ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND SHE SAID THAT THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME SHE HEARD THIS , IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE! I WOULD NEVER STEP FOOT IN THAT ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN!!!

wannabs wrote about Wanna Bs Karaoke Club & Restaurant

I am the owner of Wanna B's and simply have to address some of the previous reviews. First off . . . we have a zero tolerance policy for any KJ that does not run a fair show. The KJ that was the subject of the negative review has since been fired. The ironic thing is that we have a list of rules in the front of every book designed SOLELY to keep the show fair! For example, one of those rules prohibits anyone from coming up on stage and singing into the mic unless they are signed up for the song. The rule is in place to make sure that "Sally" doesn't jump up and sing with "Bill" and then 2 songs later "Sally" is up in her proper spot for her solo. THAT is when people suddenly cry foul and claim that "Sally" is getting special treatment because they see her up to sing 2x in quick succession. In addition, every Fri and Sat, on the hour every hour, we pull a name out of the basket that holds all of the song slips turned in that night. This person gets to sing a "bonus song" immediately without losing their normal spot on the list. Unfortunately, it is quite easy when you are engaged in conversation (& cocktails just make it worse) to miss the drawing yet notice that this person has sang twice since you last sang your song! People getting the wrong impression is a constant battle as you can imagine. The funny thing is, If we didn't run a fair list, then a bonus song drawing wouldn't be necessary in the first place! We also don't bump new arrivals to the top of the list like most other places - our list is run first come first serve. This also upsets people that are first timers - but it only seems fair to the customers that have been spending their money with US vs spending their money somewhere else. We have been providing top notch karaoke to Hampton Roads since 1995. The Virginian Pilot even called us the "Mecca Of Karaoke". I really don't believe that we could have had the success we have had and the legions of regulars year after year if we ran a shady show! It just doesn't make sense! A couple other things need to be cleared up . . .first off, all of our pourers are automatic pourers - you cannot get too little or too much. The whole reason we use these pourers was to ensure consistency from drink to drink and bartender to bartender. Secondly, we do auction a song off when we have more singers than time left in the night. It is the only chance you have to jump the list other than the bonus song drawing. Bidding starts at a $1 and the money is split between the bartender and the club. Since we DO NOT allow the KJ's to have tip jars like the other shows in town (it gives the impression that bribery is an option when it's not) - we allow them to keep some of the cash instead. Seemed like a fair trade. In closing, I am very sorry that some of you had a bad experience. I have done my best to respond to your complaints and/or explain where things might have gone wrong. Hopefully you'll come back and give us another chance!

I had to say this was one of the worst times. This could be a real nice place to eat if anyone cared. The wait staff are unclear of there duties and the cook staff all need to find another line of employment. The pancake are great if you dont mind a little hair. And last but not the least is the wait.

I have now been to "The Pub" twice with every intention of going back. Both times I went it was very busy, but the service was excellent and the staff was very courtious and knowledgeable about the menu and the many beers they offer. My wife and I continue to try different items from the menu each visit and so far they have all been excellent! The prices are by no means cheap, it is not a fast food resteraunt or a hole in the wall bar, but they were very reasonable considering the type of nicer more upscale restaurant that it is. Don't get me wrong! It is not formal, but very nice. I highly recommend everyone to at least give it a try!
