Mike's Place projects such a distinct personality, it makes you want to meet Mike. His restaurant suggests a character who's a friendly, generous sort with a big appetite. A guy who likes to meet friends after work, have a beer, watch the game and discuss the state of the world.
And there's no question he's a guy who takes definite pride in his roots. The closest thing to an Irish pub outside of the Emerald Isle, the restaurant hides in a corner of the Warwick Village Shopping Center. Now over 20 years old, the dim interior has a comfortably worn, slightly dingy air. In this home away from home, the tables are bare, the TV is on, and there's a lively hum of conversation. Above the wooden wainscoting, the walls are plastered with pictures of family and friends - presumably Mike's. In the bar area, a giant illuminated green shamrock and a sign to the Blarney Stone leave no doubt as to Mike's background.
The all-day menu of appetizers, sandwiches and entrees carries an Irish blessing and a daily offering of Ireland's national dish: corned beef and cabbage.
