The Virginia Diner is an original, it's home a railroad car salvaged after the local lumber line folded in the late 1920s. Among the staples are black-eyed peas and stewed tomatoes (they'll serve them in a bowl if you want to mix them), Silver Queen corn (in season), fried chicken and baked and fried ham.

The diner relies heavily on drawing tourists and travelers for its specialties of peanuts, softshell crabs and crabcakes along with local hams, bacon, pies, cakes and cookies. The peanuts, a house specialty, are all Virginia selects, supers and fancies. They're popular roasted, but they also find their way into soups, pies, peanut brittle and chocolate-covered peanut brittle.
