This somewhat ramshackle building, in the shadow of the Georgian manor house, sits in a gloriously scenic natural setting on the James River, the purported site of the first Thanksgiving. The low-ceilinged dining room features a midday menu of soups, salads and sandwiches. Excellent oyster stew and salads start the meal. Sandwiches are hearty but smack of mass production. Each of the many desserts carries a caloric wallop. Special meals for groups; parties of 10 or more can reserve dinner on weeknights. Half a dozen entrees at dinner include salmon, crab cake, beef, lamb chops and chicken.
