The sleek look throughout derives from burled wood floors, bare tables and floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook an herb garden and the Elizabeth River. As the name suggests, wine is central to the restaurant's theme.
The atmosphere and offerings combine a big-city look with an old-fashioned club and youthful, contemporary attitudes. The menus, geared primarily to the building's in-built clientele, display a similar mix of the practical, the local and the sophisticated.
The main courses include a single listing each for chicken, flounder and rockfish, tuna, beef and a "pig pickin'" platter of a bone-in pork chop with ham, Surry sausage, Jones bacon and a fresh cider reduction.
Desserts follow a similar pattern with a limited, but thoughtful array of choices: Yoder's local coffee ice cream, apple pie, a chocolate burnt cream and a late summer berry tart.
