By its name, Amadeus Café conjures a bright and breezy venue. By making a connection to Mozart, the short-lived 18th-century Austrian composer, the Newport News restaurant creates an expectation of European pastries and frothy coffees, liveliness and a brisk tempo. The bare-bones setting at Amadeus brings patrons back to reality with a jolt. The sprawling three-room configuration holds a large bar and lounge, a central dance floor with a set-up for a live band, and - at the farthest reach - a dining room serving Latin-inspired foods. From vinyl chairs at bare tables, diners can take in the breadth of the restaurant across unadorned salmon-pink half walls. Salsa night is every Friday and Saturday night with different latino music including Merengue, salsa, Bachata, Cumbia, Reggaeton and more.
