Bobbywood: Infomally Formal
Not too far from Granby Street and McArthur Mall area, you'll find Chef Bobby Hubers’ creative, american, bistro called Bobbywood.

The Idea:
Bobbywood is located in Norfolk on Monticello Avenue and is Chef Bobby’s creative take on American bistro crusine. The menu consists of quirky versionsyou’re your most favorite foods. The menu is subject to change daily, which is great for people that like to frequent the same restaurant. If you can’t find what you want on the menu, ask the chef to whip something up special for you.

Décor: The award winning restaurant is dressed in modern contemporary attire. The venue is split into two halves; one side is lined with tables for dining, the other is a large bar with a clear view to an open kitchen. There’s also a separate room for private engagements. Articles line the wall along with a bench for seating across from individual chairs positioned on a carpeted floor. You may find the bench a little stiff.

Service: Service is great. The small room with low capacity helps to keep the ratio of people to service down and the quality of service up. Your waiter/waitress knows the ever-changing menu by heart, as well as the specials of the day. Also useful is their knowledge of what can be prepared that isn’t on the menu.

Taste: You may find Bobbywood a little too eclectic in taste. The opening bread spread is a guessing game. You may be correct in saying the middle spread is butter, but what’s flanking the butter, may keep you wondering even after leaving. The veggie soup lacks a good portion of veggies and soup lovers who do not like their soup sweetened may find the dish too sweet for their taste. A veggie pasta dish the chef whipped up was too “soupy,” and the fried rock fish with corn mix was less than special.

Price: Bobbywood is a bit pricey. Not much more than what’s expected in an establishment such as Bobbywood or in the area for which it is located. Two appetizers, two entrée’s and two soft drinks will leave you somewhere around $60. Add a couple hard drinks and desert, and you may find yourself approaching that hundred dollar mark.

If you’re a restaurant hopper you may or may not want to try Bobbywood. With a changing menu comes a new option so you may just dine in on the right night. If you’re a supporter of local legends, stop on in to Bobbywood and see why it’s informally formal.
