Okay, so you were on Metromix last night, checked out the latest hotspots, then went and partied you heart out. Now today you’re paying the price from all those margaritas. Well this place “hits two birds with one stone,” by not only being a great family restaurant, but also as a great recovery to the night prior.

Décor: You most likely are not looking for much visual stimulation, and everything is tinted behind your favorite pair of shades, right? Good, there isn’t much here anyway. Just some country themed “nick-knacks” placed about the wall, stained glass canopy lighting, red and green window treatments, and old traditional ceiling fans make up much of the décor. Likewise the wood colored tables and the green patterned carpet isn’t much to look at either.

Vibe: If you’re lucky, you may make it to Tommy’s at a time when the line isn’t out of the door. Enjoy all the bits of history about the restaurant as you browse through the newspaper clippings in the lobby, while you wait to make it to the hostess. Once in, you’ll be in one of two sections and just about four feet away from the next table and one foot away from the person next to you. Nevertheless, a real tight space but well worth it.

Menu: The menu is down right easy to read and straight to the point. This is most likely due to the fact that Tommy’s is only a breakfast and lunch restaurant that is open between 6am and 3pm. Meals from the grill, cereal, hotcakes, toasts, rolls, and omelets are just a bit of what’s expected. In addition the usual eggs, links, bacon, and ham are on the menu. Mixing and maxing dishes makes it easy to put together a well rounded serving.

Verdict:
Definitely worth the drive! The food is a far cry from what you may be used to in your kitchen. You’ll quickly realize why all the clippings and articles are taking over the lobby.

The waffles are perfect, fruit toppings are delicious either warm or cold, and the butter dressing is a blessing. Breakfast for two including two waffles, one with fruit, one  with a side of grits, 4 eggs scrambled with cheese, and soft drinks were all for under twenty bucks!

If you don’t mind the wait and the crowd Tommy’s Family Restaurant is a must. You’ll experience small town service, great food, and have enough money left over for another night out on the town.
