America's Next Producer review
TV Guide Network is (finally!) successfully capitalizing on their position as the authority for everything that's on television. Their new reality competition show, "America's Next Producer," is a far cry from Joan and Melissa dishing on the red carpet. It will, however, still leave you feeling pushed around—by the ever-present scrolling listings of the guide, that is. Don't they know it's not in good practice to remind people that other things are on while they're trying to get into your show?

Who's that?:
While the "celebrity panel" factor is not the most impressive, you might remember Ananda Lewis from her days as an MTV VJ and a short-lived self-titled show. Also on deck is a grumpy guy from Fox Sports and the TV Guide Channel's own TV critic Matt Roush, who'll ensure that at least someone can provide professional insight…

Buzzed about:
After the build-up (and immediate let down) of "On the Lot," this show seems to have all the guilty pleasure goodness that the Fox flop lacked.

The "ooh" factor:
They definitely picked a diverse enough group of people to guarantee major drama—there are tears, temper tantrums and screaming fits in the first episode alone.

The "eh" factor: It seems like they picked some of the 10 contestants only for the drama. (And yes, we're talking about you, crazy Sharon!)

The verdict:
This show's success doesn't depend on whether or not you buy these guys as successful producers (or whether you even know what a producer is)—the fast-paced action and behind-the-scenes angle are entertaining enough to add to your summer watch list.

"America's Next Producer" premieres Wednesday, July 18, at 8 p.m./7c on TV Guide Network.
