DJ's come a dime-a-dozen, but ever so often will you find one who truly harnesses the artistic side of the mixing craft that the young and old can relate to. Something that bridges the gaps of genres and eras and leaves you saying, "Did he really blend those songs together and make it work?” This would be the art of DJ GregAgain. This artist’s brush takes the form of turntables, and his canvas is the many faces in the crowd. All of which are in awe of his ALL SKOOL masterpieces.
So how did you get the name GregAgain?Reinventing, to have staying power & being relevant with every rebirth. Staying alive like a LL Cool J, Diddy, or Madonna, these people are old like me, but yet are still relevant. They adapt but never lose the core of their being.
You coined your style ALL SKOOL, explain to people what it means. My music mixing style encompasses everything & anything possible. When I play, I want to reach everyone. It's a gumbo of music, not reserving itself to any one thing. It’s like the "Jeet Kune Do" of music, or in today’s terms, “Mixed Martial Arts of Music.” Hence the name ALL SKOOL.
How did you get hooked up with N.E.R.D?Waaaaayyyyy back in the day when Backstage Cafe (behind the NorVa) was the only bar on Granby St., Pharrell Williams used to stop by; we're talkin’ 2001 / 2002- and listen to me play. He asked me to do local parties for N.E.R.D., and then later invited me to tour with N.E.R.D. on the Liquid Sprite Tour 2003. They were the headlining act & I had the honor to open for them.
Why are you no longer working together?Well anyone who lives here knows Pharrell has a place in Miami. Most people who live here, know that he doesn’t frequent VA anymore. I don’t blame him, but we just lost contact after he moved.
Would you do it again if you had the opportunity?Yes!
Where can people go to check you out on a weekly basis? As of now I’ve been in a contract with Scotty Quixx, which keeps me exclusive to them on Granby St. I'm there three Wednesday's a month and every Saturday. I also play every Thursday at McFadden’s in the Power Plant in Hampton.
